What exactly is a loan officer?

A loan officer is simply the person who works at a mortgage broker or at a mortgage lender. Borrowers use brokers because they represent hundreds of lenders and have thousands of different loan programs. In fact, over 65% of all mortgages in the US are originated by mortgage loan brokers. Lenders like mortgage loan brokers because they do not have to do any marketing. The brokers get the customers and process the paperwork. Most loan officers work for or as mortgage brokers.
